Born in Italy in 1972, I started drawing in early childhood and discovered photography later in my life. If painting is a sort of reflex action, photography is a totally deliberate, voluntary action. In my paintings and photos I try to show the world the way I see it, with its invisible, underground reality coming to the surface. I have a special interest in people: by portraying them in black and white I try to capture their essence and unveil their most intimate emotions. This is also my personal tribute to the great old masters of chiaroscuro and tenebrism, Caravaggio in the first place. I'm also very interested in the role of women in our society: my WoMen Unchained laugh at them-selves with irony, rebelling against a certain self-pitying feminism, and create their own lives hand in hand with men. Always on the move, I live between Italy, France and Spain.
